“Within weeks, I began feeling the results.”
When Nannie Maxwell’s fifth concussion left her with unrelenting brain fog, she became desperate for a solution. The former nationally ranked paddle tennis player found herself struggling with memory and recall, skills that had always come naturally.
“I remember EVERYTHING,” said Nannie. I don’t know how; I just do. I can remember every childhood phone number, and if you tell me Nov. 15 is a Saturday, I can tell you what day of the week July 15 fell on. But after my last concussion, I lost some of my sharpness.”
Nannie didn’t realize the extent of her cognitive decline until a friend noticed that she donated the wrong tickets to a University of Michigan football game. “I’m a third-generation Michigan alum and a football fanatic! As soon as the schedule comes out, I memorize it. For a charity event, I donated my seats for what I thought was a home game, but it was away. For me to confuse an away game with a home game is astronomical! I was floored by how bad my cognitive struggle had become.”
When a friend told her about CogniSHIELD™, Nannie didn’t hesitate. “Within weeks, I began feeling the results,” she reported. “When I remembered a date, I’d think, ‘Yes! There’s my memory back!’ It was good to feel like myself again.”
Now in her sixties, Nannie brings the same discipline she once applied to paddle tennis to her brain healthy lifestyle. Her commitment is deeply personal: her father, 87, is living with dementia. So after more than 30 years as a leadership and sales coach, Nannie now teaches yoga and Pilates and leads mindfulness retreats. She’s proactive about prevention and follows a SHIELD lifestyle (Sleep, Handle Stress, Interact socially, Exercise, Lifelong learning and Diet). Thankfully, her concussion symptoms are gone, but she continues to view CogniSHIELD as a critical part of staying mentally strong and clear.
